Happy Harry’s Direct Offer No. 50
Taylor Lane Pinot Noir
For the first time in North Dakota, Happy Harry’s was fortunate to get our hands on Joseph Wagner’s latest release of his famed Taylor Lane Pinot Noir.
Taylor Lane Vineyard is located on the furthest western ridge of the coastal range, sitting just over the Pacific, looking out over the Faralon Islands. Beautiful as it may be, the ruthless and challenging Pacific weather ushered in an era of farming innovation as Taylor Lane—in all honesty, it required innovation. It was unlike any vineyard site Wagner had farmed on the coast of California. After they noticed there were some similarities in the heat accumulation patterns to that of Burgundy, they consulted with a Burgundian winemaker to discuss how to make this the most traditionally steeped, yet California Coastal Pinot Noir coming out of the true Sonoma Coast. Beginning with the 2011 vintage, every element of grape-growing and winemaking was retooled. As such, when they were ready to bottle after nearly two years in barrel, they could see the traditional angular characters of this Pinot Noir required additional cellaring in bottle before release.
Wagner releases his prized Taylor Lane Pinot Noirs in magnums only, and only when he deems they are beginning to show their true quality. He previously released the 2011 and 2014 vintages after nine years of aging, but held this tremendous 2013 vintage, the top Taylor Lane yet, back for 11 years. They choose only to bottle in magnums only, as this larger vessel, meaning less oxygen interaction with the wine, upholding the bright red fruit notes while the aging process softens the structure and brings about brown spice and earth tones. Eleven years in the making, the 2013 Belle Glos Taylor Lane is released under the new West Sonoma Coast AVA, marking it as the oldest wine released in this newly recognized region.
Happy Harry’s was able to procure the entire small allocation of this vintage in the state of the North Dakota— definitely a show stopper for all of your holiday gatherings!
Belle Glos Taylor Lane Pinot Noir 1.5L —2013
The third cellar release from this majestic vineyard showcases a deep garnet-red hue, accompanied by enticing aromas of fresh blackberry, blueberry, rich oak, ripe plum, and crème de cassis. Upon tasting, its bright acidity and rich tannins envelop the palate, while the wine’s excellent structure and silky texture deliver a truly gratifying experience with flavors of cherry, apple and blackberry. With over a decade of aging, this wine is currently hitting all the marks and promises to evolve with even greater complexity over time.
