Napanook

In the world of wine, few possess the depth of experience of Christian Moueix. With fifty–five years of winemaking on Bordeaux’s Right Bank and four decades in Napa Valley, he has been a pioneer of adaptive viticulture, shaping vineyards to meet the evolving demands of climate and terroir.

In 1983, he began producing Dominus from the historic Napanook vineyard in Yountville. It was here, in 1838, that George Yount planted some of the very first vines in Napa Valley.

The Napanook vineyard is nestled in a natural amphitheater at the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains on the west side of the Napa Valley. Fed by winter rains, its underground springs flow through ancient riverbeds and provide a natural supply of water to its grapevines, allowing them to develop deep roots.

Over centuries this fertile benchland’s microclimate has provided ideal conditions for crops and grape growing.

The Napanook vineyard encompasses 134 acres, 102 of which are presently planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Its gravelly clay loam soils gently slope 3-10%, ensuring natural drainage.

They produce wines that reflect the purity, complexity and character of grapes grown exclusively from the Napanook vineyard. This unique provenance qualifies our wines as estate-bottled, a rarely found designation.

Happy Harry’s was very fortunate to obtain all of this phenomenal 2021 vintage for the state of North Dakota. Enjoy this wine now or years down the road!

Dominus Napanook Cabernet Sauvignon—2021

Certainly one the best Napanook bottlings that many wine critiques can recall. With only 3,000-cases produced this classy wine boasts harmonious aromas of raspberries, red and black cherries, cinnamon, clove and dusty earth notes. It tips the scales at a declared 15% alcohol, yet it shows no detectable heat. It is full-bodied, intense, rich and velvety, with hints of black tea on the long finish. Matured in 20% new French oak, it stands out for its lush mouthfeel and savory complexity. Drink now through 2036.

Blend: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot
