Cardinale

In 1983, Jess Jackson, proprietor of Kendall-Jackson Winery, decided to produce a world-class red Meritage wine. The name comes from the original Cardinale vineyard site at Kendall-Jackson’s Lakeport winery. The wine is made predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amounts of Merlot and, in certain years, Cabernet Franc. Grapes are harvested from hillside vineyards located in both Napa Valley and Sonoma County. The wine is aged in 100% new French oak Chateau barrels to produce a forward, seamless oak character to match its intense fruit. with our extended families of wine lovers worldwide!

Current Cardinale winemaker Christopher Carpenter took over in 2001. A University of Illinois football defensive lineman, president and chairman of the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, food lover, soccer dad, and holder of master’s degrees in horticulture and business, Equally an expert at grape growing as he is at making wine, Christopher vinifies grapes from more than a dozen vineyards throughout Napa Valley, and through arduous blending, creates a wine that demonstrates the personality of each vintage, and whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Carpenter views vineyards in Napa Valley as his orchestra, and the grapes grown in its various subappellations are the individual instruments he conducts. When blended together the fruit becomes the symphony that is Cardinale. The myriad soils, climate, elevation and exposure of each sub-region and specific vineyard – covering mountains, hillsides, benches and valley floor – represent the string sections, the woodwinds, the brass and the percussion of a concert.

Just in time for the holidays—Happy Harry’s was very fortunate to obtain a very small amount of this phenomenal 2019 vintage. Enjoy this very cellar worthy wine for that special someone this holiday season!

“Guided by the vintage character of each year, these wines assemble the distinctive flavors and personality of individual Napa Valley appellations into a richly layered, balanced whole. The 2019 is a great example of this, with its great primary fruit characters, but also tons of rose petal, cedar, espresso bean, and pain grillé. The ’19s have a compelling savory aspect that really comes through in this wine – a perfect frame for the intense, dark fruit of the mountains. Whether I’m in the kitchen blending spice rubs or in the winery blending Cardinale, having a rich array of uniquely different components available to combine is a true joy, and I hope you enjoy the results as much as I do.”

Cardinale Cabernet Sauvignon—2019

Super structured and with minerality to spare, this Cabernet Sauvignon offers a real presence on the palate from start to finish. Full-bodied with round, polished tannins. Layered and so delicious. Generous notes of dark chocolate balance beautifully with a blue and black fruit flavor explosion, finishing with a subtle whisper of rose petal. This potpourri of Napa cabernet character takes your palate on a tour of so many of the regions, including all the mountains, such as Howell, Veeder and Spring Mountain, as well as Atlas Peak, Stags Leap, Yountville and St. Helena.
